Cowboy is Dan Schleigh befriending a colt that turned out to be a true outlaw. This was one of the few times he wasn’t trying to kill someone.

“Because she was crippled, the fine old bridle horse was returned home to be put down and buried there. With mixed emotions, we rescued her, hoping to raise just one more colt. We shared her growing agony through her pregnancy, often second guessing what we had done. But on this day, her sweetest day, she, her little roan colt, and even the world around her told us. It was what she wanted.”
